In our last post, we introduced you to IceBug, one of our most recommended brands for winter shoes. This week we’d like to present another one of our favorites for winter footwear: Vibram. First manufactured in Italy, Vibram is known for its history of providing traction technologies that provide a superior level of grip on a variety of surfaces. Vitale Bramani, the developer, was motivated by a tragic hiking accident to invent a shoe that would provide traction on a variety of surfaces. Vibram is now known throughout the world for its vulcanized rubber technology and remains the most-used shoe by hikers worldwide.
Recently, Vibram has come out with its most innovative traction technology yet: Arctic Grip. This is the most advanced cold weather gripping system ever created by Vibram, and we’re pretty excited to be carrying it in our shoe store in Basalt, CO. Vibram offers a superior level of traction compared to other winter footwear, yet it’s more affordable than IceBug, which we featured in our last post. Arctic Grip is exclusive to the Wolverine brand, which means it’s a quality shoe that’s available at a great price. Here are the six exclusive Wolverine brands that include Vibram’s Arctic Grip for the 2016-2017 season:
- Hush Puppies
Although we think the best way to experience Vibram’s Arctic Grip is to try it for yourself, we think the science behind this great shoe is worth sharing, too. Since 1937, Vibram has been perfecting its traction technologies, and it’s amazing how far they’ve come. Here are just a few things you should know about the technology behind the Arctic Grip.
Vibram’s Arctic Grip sole is engineered with a polymer blend coupled with an advanced filler system to create a superior quality sole. This special blend allows for high performance, quality and durability even in the coldest of temperatures. Below-freezing temperatures will not cause the material to break down or lose it elasticity, which means the shoe will still perform even in severe weather conditions.
The unique design of the Arctic Grip allows for traction on even the most slippery surfaces. When combined with Vibram’s Icetrek technology, the Arctic Grip is able to provide an improved grip on dry ice, wet ice and all varieties of snowy surfaces.
One of our favorite features of the Arctic Grip sole is its thermochromatic lug. This lug turns from white to blue as the temperature nears 32° F. This serves as an indicator to the wearer that temperatures are low enough for ice to form. This is just one more safety feature that makes Arctic Grip one of our favorite solutions for avoiding falls in winter conditions.
If you’re looking for an affordable shoe with excellent traction, stop in to our shoe store in Basalt, CO and check out Vibram’s Arctic Grip. We think you’ll be surprised once you test out these shoes and feel the difference for yourself!
